POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Successful AISC teaching assistants relish the following challenges as part of their work as educators:

  1. Assist the teacher in daily classroom activity planning, set up,  and supervision.
  2. Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills as designed and prescribed by the teacher.
  3. Grade assignments and papers as prescribed by the teacher.
  4. Taking students from class to class.
  5. Assist with large group activities 
  6. Supervise children during recess and lunch.
  7. Prepare work orders, requests for supplies and maintenance orders.
  8. Substitute for the teacher when needed.
  9. Participate in professional development, as assigned.
  10. Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of all teachers.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS


Successful AISC teaching assistants are learners. They can demonstrate specific knowledge and skills and share examples of their growth in the following areas:   

  1. Understanding of appropriate developmental stages of students
  2. Implementation of behavior management techniques 
  3. Communicating effectively in verbal and written forms with students and colleagues
  4. Using technology to enhance the learning experience
  5. Contributing to school initiatives, community, and culture
  6. Managing time and projects effectively
  7. Actively engaging students when leading small group or individual student work
