POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

AISC teachers are responsible for ensuring that all instructional and assessment practices, curriculum development, classroom management, and professional growth align with and contribute to the School’s Mission, Core Values, and Vision for the AISC Learner.  Duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  1. Manage a caseload of learning support students in grades 6 - 12. This includes:
    1. Nurturing and empowering students to set academic, vocational and transition goals, self-advocate and develop self-direction.
    2. Developing and monitoring Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) or Accommodation Plans (APs) which include academic and behavioral goals and measurable progress benchmarks
    3. Creating quarterly progress reports for students with ILPs.
    4. Working and conferencing with students as required to support ILP/AP  goal progress
    5. Proactive communication with and support for teachers regarding ILP/AP accommodations, including strategies and scaffolds
    6. Proactive communication with parents about progress and support
    7. Supporting LSS Team Education Assistants to achieve all of the above.
  2. Design and deliver specialized intervention and high-quality instruction for neurodiverse students pursuing an alternative diploma pathway or vocational/Life Skills program. This may include: 
    1. Personalized replacement curricula for individual students in the Learning Support space,
    2. Personalized or small group differentiated instruction as a part of the general education classroom.
    3. Push-in support for students in general education classrooms.
    4. Guiding LSS colleagues on how to most effectively support students in a separate setting and in general education classes.
  3. Use data from formative and summative assessments to inform decisions regarding instruction, accommodations, and (when necessary) further accommodations. Aide teachers in doing so with their learning support students.
  4. Demonstrate understanding and use of education and assistive technology as a teaching and learning tool and to assist students in communication. 
  5. Provide expertise regarding current trends in special education and demonstrate the ability to apply them.
  6. Ability to administer the Woodcock-Johnson IV achievement tests for referral purposes,  interpret psycho-educational testing and translate the testing recommendations into concrete and appropriate individual learning plans and instructional and therapeutic practices. 
  7. Co-facilitate online learning.
  8. Collaborate with building Principals, Director of Enrollment Management, and LSS Head of Department to consider students with learning needs for admissions.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

AISC seeks teachers with appropriate experiences that have helped them develop their knowledge, skills, and talents:

  1. At least three years of relevant experience
  2. Special education teaching credential
  3. Experience with designing, implementing and refining Life Skills programs, replacement/ sheltered instruction and behavior intervention plans
  4. A record of continued professional growth 
  5. Experience working with English as Additional Language learners
  6. Experience teaching and learning in a technology-integrated environment
