POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Student Support Services Director plays a central role in supporting the effective implementation of AISC’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) model and vision. This role focuses on fostering an inclusive learning environment where all learners can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

 

The Director collaborates with Administrators, Teachers, Learning Support Specialists, School Psychologist, Counselors, and contracted specialists to align MTSS practices across the school. Responsibilities include designing and facilitating professional development for staff and community, providing targeted resources to support MTSS implementation, guiding school-based intervention processes, and monitoring data to inform decision-making. 

 

Applying the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), the Student Support Services Director tailors strategies to meet diverse academic, behavioral, and emotional needs at developmentally appropriate levels across all school divisions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

 

Leadership:

  • Develop and Implement Systems: Lead the creation and alignment of a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) program across all sections and departments, addressing social-emotional learning, behavior, and academics to promote inclusivity and consistency.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with school administrators, leadership teams, and teachers to effectively implement and sustain MTSS processes.
  • Support Tier 1 Planning: Collaborate with the Office of Teaching and Learning and coach teachers to strengthen Tier 1 instructional, learning, and assessment strategies within the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework, ensuring inclusive and effective practices that support all learners.
  • Monitor Implementation and Impact: Oversee MTSS fidelity, including student identification, delivery of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, and progress monitoring.
  • Facilitate Professional Learning: Design and lead professional development sessions to build staff capacity in MTSS, UDL learning support, and evidence-based interventions across academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning (SEL).
  • Support Data-Driven Decision-Making: Guide faculty in analyzing student needs, identifying targeted interventions and establishing consistent data collection and analysis practices to inform decisions.
  • Evaluate and Report on Effectiveness: Monitor intervention outcomes, compile regular reports, and provide insights to improve systems, resource allocation, and student support strategies.
  • Foster Relationships: Develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with families, staff, and the broader community to ensure a shared understanding and commitment to student success.

 

Program Management:

  • Documentation and Data Systems: Develop and manage systems for documentation, data collection, and progress reporting to monitor interventions and measure outcomes.
  • Individualized Support Plans: Oversee the development and implementation of individualized student support plans, ensuring appropriate accommodations, interventions, and equitable access to learning.
  • Resource Alignment: Collaborate with Admissions and the Business Office to align student needs with resources, including tiered service planning and payment structures.



Committee Contributions:

 

  • Serve on the Safeguarding Committee to uphold student safety and wellbeing. 
  • Serve on the Wellbeing Committee to support school-wide wellbeing initiatives.
  • Serve on the Transitions Committee to ensure effective student adjustment and support.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

AISC seeks leaders with appropriate experiences that have helped them develop their knowledge, skills, and talents:

 

  • Degree in Special Education, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field, with certification or demonstrated expertise in student support.
  • Proven experience implementing and refining MTSS and UDL frameworks in international school settings to support diverse learners, including EAL students.
